IMessage how to start using

With IOS 5 comes the super duper charged IMessage

Lets get to the point how to use it
1.You need to add the Email address of the person to whom you want to send the imessage
2.This email address is the address with which he is associated on itunes
3.Add this to your contact
4.wait for the bubble to turn from green to blue
5.once done you can see imessage on top

You are ready to go!!! Enjoyy!!!

  1. Thank you for the post.

    I Have 2 problems:

    1) When saving ” +(Country-Code) (Phone-Number) ” in the contacts:
    iMessage: Contact Name Will Appear.
When Calling : Contact Name Will Appear.
When Recieving A Call : Phone Number Will Appear “No Contact Name”.

    2) When saving “(Phone-Number)” in the contacts:
iMessage: Phone Number Will Appear “No Contact Name”.
When Calling : Contact Name Will Appear.
When Recieving A Call : Contact Name Will Appear.

The solution was kinda stupid, what I did is saving two phone number for each contact, one that includes the (country code + the phone number) and the other one has the local phone number.

    Any other solution?

    • Seems you have found a new bug !! Congratulations :D
There are few issues with ios5 they should be resolved in next release

      Y 2 Contacts?
Add those 2 numbers in the same Contact , it should Work!

    • I have the same problem and I can’t figure out what to do. I tried to change the +(Country Code)(Phone Number) but the name still doesn’t appear. :(

      • It looks like a bug
        1.Create a contact
        2.Add 2 Phone numbers
+(Country Code)(Phone Number) and also add
        (Phone Number) in another field

i.e simply add 2 fields one with country code and other without the country code
        it will work !

  2. LOL thank you, so it should be called ” Alex’s Bug”.
And yes I did your solution: 2 number in the some contact and it did work fine.
Will be waiting for the next release.
    Thanks again, best wishes.

  3. i really need your help when i upgrade my iphone4 to ios 5 i cant find the imassage app anywhere on my phone any suggestion?

  4. although i’ve created a new Apple ID for iMessage, I’ve not been able to log in to that application

    • 1.You need no apple id to use IMessage
2.The apple id with which you use on ur itunes to download or buy is the email which you have to give to your friend whom you want to send your IMessage
3.To send an IMessage you have to know your friends apple id (that is associated with his itunes) and store it i the email field of his contact
4.You can just type the apple id to chat with anyone directly

  5. I’d like to know why when I send an imessage to my boyfriend it comes from my email, but when i send a normal text message it’s from my phone?

    • He has to add your apple (your email id) to the contact on his phone
      It should work now!

To be clear Your phone number and apple id should be in the Same contact !

  6. I’m having similar problems but adding two numbers isn’t working!! It’s very annoying!!

    • Adding the 2 numbers to separate fields seems to be working with other people over here
Why don’t you check any sync issues …. try to keep one single email with which you sync contacts, notes , mails etc

If that doesnt solve consider a backup and restore (do transfer purchased content)
or do a reset of phone (in many cases it will work)
and do the addding 2 numbers solution

  7. I’m having the same issue but neither of the solutions worked… Help!

  8. • I wanted to thank you for this great read!! I definitely enjoying every little bit of it I have you bookmarked to check out new stuff you post

  9. I’ve tried the above steps to launch iMessage but it still doesn’t work….blue doesn’t change from green etc. what can I do?

  10. Hello,

I need help please how can I add my phone number in the “Receive At” section? Only my email appears and I am using iPhone 4s. Please help :(

    • Create another contact without the email (just the number) and whenever you need to send an SMS use the newly created contact
and when you want to send an IMessage use the one with the Email id
(make sure there are 2 different contacts and one with Email id and other one with the Number)!!

  11. Thanks a lot and it helped me and love your content

  12. HELP!
when i go to (>settings>messages>) i turn on the imessages and then it says “your varrier may charge for SMS messages used to activate IMessage” (am i supposed to have money on my phone) then i click OK instead of Cancel. Then it tells me Error.
Also below it says “Waiting on activation” , but for some reason below the activation thing it has ” Use Your Apple ID for IMessage”, so when i click that and put in my ID and password and i sign in and it goes to the next page but then 3 seconds later it goes back to where i have to sign in. ( i put in the correct info)
why can’t i get IMessages to work on my iphone 3GS??

    • Call up the Customer Service of your carrier and check have they blocked any feature and make sure your icloud account is created in your phone with the same account that you use to download apps

  13. Ok so I am starting iMessage for the first time and when I type in my email it takes soooo long for it to verify and I don’t have that much time to just wait 5 hrs for it to verify my email!! I NEED HELP!! I have the same problem with FaceTime also!!

  14. Turn off your phone and turn it on again worked for me

  15. Charlotte connor

Thank you now I might be able to go on imesssage
